Gunned Triremes
Gunned Trireme is the navy tactics developed by the Irgia Republic. It's one of the first type of navy which used the explosive cannons. It has been used to solve the Second Channel War in 45 VE.
Composition
Manpower
Each formation has around 5 or 7 ships, with 100 crew of commanders, cannon operators, and oarmans.
Vehicles
Every triremes in the fleets has all installed the powerful weapons called Catasoon. Imported from the Valonia Empire, it used the explosive to launch projectile from a steel barral, which has been proved to be more effective and more powerful than any tension-based catapults or balistae, and it is eazy to assemble. Each Trireme have at least one cannon, mostly facing toward the foremost. With fast menuvability, a single gun is enough to turn toward the enemy and shoot.
Tactics
One of their tactics is to format into the v-shape line, where the center ship with the toward the front, and each wing toward the side. The middle ship has a cannon pointed toward the front while the wing pointed toward the side. When the enemy ship sail within the inner v-shape, all the cannones will shoots, resulting in increadible damage upon th enemy
Training
Since the cannons were new to the republic, they had to collab with those of Valonians to learn how to operate the cannons as well as helping them install these on their ships. It took around three years to became professional and practical, ready to operate.
Logistics
Logistical Support
Each ships can lasted for at least a few hours, meaning that they can only patrolling within a few kilometers away from the shore. However, it is good for offensive operation.
Auxilia
The gunned triremes is supported by ordianry triremes with regular army side onboard. They are forced to ram the enemy ships before combating like on the regular land.
Upkeep
The most important part of the formation is the Catastropium powders. According to the treaty of 43 VE, the republic have to import tonnes of them in barrels every years until 55 VE.
History
The formation is barely used yet not that new since triremes has been used for over centuries, and it was only the recent years that they had to upgrade this. In 43 VE, the Valonia Empire has agreed to help upgrade their fleets for the upcoming war. Two years later, their very first fleets were deployed on cambating the Maritime Kingdom shortly after the begining of the Second Channel War.
