Irgia Republic (Er-gia)
Irgia Republic was a sovereign state located in the Gate Lowland of South Estisia. It was the homeland of Irgs. Historically, it was one of the first ancient countries to own oversea territories.
The republic, including two protectorates, held the entire lowland, from the northern gap between mountain that made the wall, down to the great estuary and eventually reached the southmost point of the continent. Their greatest extand included the northwestern part of the Ronminar Isles as the Colony of Sria.
Structure
Irgia was divided into 10 provinces and 2 protectorates. The provinces were administrated by the appointed governers from the capital. The protectorates were administrated by each of their own head of governments who had more autonomous. All of them were also the representatives of the republican government called the Irgian Council, a legistrative and executive institute. If the representative worked long enough they may had a chance to elect themselves for the highest role in the council - Supreme Councillor.
The first Supreme Councillor was the chief of the Erga tribe in the 6th centuries BVE, henched the name of Irgia and its people. The last one was Barloccim in 60 VE, before the council were reorganized and reduced its power to just a Valonian local government, with the Julian Vasner, a Valonian diplomat, continued to hold the rank.
History
The republic was found in 656 BVE by the union of tribes around the Gate Lowland at the place which is now Irgian after the long conflict. All the tribe's chief couldn't agree who's going to be their leader, so they elected. The result was the chief from Erga tribe won, and became the name for this new state since, phonically.
The Wall
The country began to explore around, or sharing tribe's knowledge, only to find out that they're surrounded by mountain ridges except for a wide gap on the north. Passing the gap they met the more advanced civilization: Kritus Empire.
Both started trading, gettting amount of useful technology like advance construction. However, with the empire's rapid expansion, the fear of being invaded began to grow. As a result, the republic decide to secure it with the giant wall. In 575 BVE, The republic finished its construction, with the cost of isolated entirely from the mainland. Additonally, the Erkisium was found.
As they thought, Kritus was coming. The republic army garrisoned the wall to confront the large Krin army on the siege in 569 BVE, and the wall worked pretty well. They held the position for 4 years before it eventually breached, making the first hostile outsider to enter and cede the northern region.
Lost but not least. By the time of the siege, the republic had already began colonizing outside the Irgian Channel, making it further into the Ronminar Isles where they formed the Colony of Sria; Technically more gaining than losing.
Decline
The republic managed to reclaim those annexed land back in 167 BVE - almost 400 years since the occupation. However, the campaign waged too much the nation couldn't easily recovered, so the government decided to let it self-governed under theirs, and thus Erkin was formed.
In 110 BVE, the republic once again faced the great lost. As a result of the First Channel War, the republic had to cede the entire colony to the Kingdom of Arcwood which became unified. In only the short time the maritime navy dominated the channel in both economy and military, eventaully led to the second war, thus changed everything.
Disbandment
The republic had fallen in the 60 VE, but the cause happened 10 years beforehead, or even longer. To help them fighting against the Maritime Kingdom, they demanded or traded with their biggest alliance Valonia Empire to give them a powerful weapon the empire have been working on. The mismanagement of both caused their relationship to sour.
The alliance torn down in 50 VE when the empire swithced side and join the kingdom fighting against the republic themselves. The limited amount of purple powders caused them to fustrate. They attempted to save this but had no avail. 10 years later, the independent had come to an end.
According to Treaty of Centralium, not only the republic had to cede all the land to the Valonian, but also lost their protectorates, navies, and even the seat of Supreme Councillor. The changed to a Valonian province called Valonian Irgia.
Military
Despite the army garrison at the wall, Irgian military was technically focused more on navy. Their ships used to patroll all over the Irgian Channel.
Technological Level
They was well-known from a large defensive constructions. The Wall of Irgian was the Irg's proudest structure, closing the gap that divided the South Estisia to the Gate Lowland, henching its name. Not only that, they designed the system that reducing the manpowers - by paying Erkin.
The republic also the first nation to utillize the uses of gunship as main forces even though they never produced any cannons. Like, Gunned Triremes - instead of using ramming, the oar-powered warship used a unique cannons Catasoon from Valonian. It was widely used and yeild good results during the Second Channel War.
Foreign Relations
Prior to the 50 VE, Irgia Republic had a good relationship with Valonia Empire. They formed the Irgian-Valone Pact, allowing them to exclusively trade them in a friendly prices via the west coast and the main gate of the wall.
However, two republic vassals blocked them apart: the Protectorate of Erkin and the Protectorate of Garol. The reason to let them existed was to keep the republic safe and upkeeps reduced. Irgia were willing to help both of those states as long as they were nothing but be loyal, to make sure the people of Gate Lowland the republic promised to protect would get no harm in the future - like what they faced a half millennium ago.
Agriculture & Industry
The republic holds a lot of flat plain, which mean its economy relies on farming and husbandry. It can supply much enough to not only feed all the cities in the nation, but the foreigners as well. Livestock like cows are the most popular one. Building materials such as woods and irons are also abundance, they can be found around the surrounding mountainside.
