Overview
Malar is the source of the primal, violent urges humanity turns to in combat. For some the sight of blood and viscera sparks disgust and regret. However, for others it fills them with exhilaration and satisfaction. Malar feeds upon our weakness, and in turn, provides his devotees with unparalleled strength and power.
Worship
Malar is one of the condemned gods, and formal worship is outlawed across Terrania. He is considered the antithesis of
Tyr, God of Law and Justice as when justice wanes; barbarism reigns. For devotees, known as the Bloodborn, they indulge in the highs one feels during violent episodes. For them, an individual's power comes from the primal urge and therefore is sacred and natural. God created us with this inherent power, but the ideas of mercy, harmony and compassion are restraints imposed upon by the gods that fear humanity's true strength. The lust for blood and slaughter is the source of everything. Malar was the first to understand this, and shed all shackles placed upon him by the gods. The Bloodborne work toward emulating the path he created, tap into the deep rooted urges and spill blood to thank him for showing the way. Unlike Bhaalists; they do not conduct violence wantonly for the sake of it. Instead, combat and battle is a holy affair, and taken seriously. True bloodshed comes from an opponent who is even matched, the more powerful your prey- the deeper you can dig in the primal urge. When a combatant is slayed; Malarites will often indulge in ritualistically drinking or bathing in defeated combatant's blood, as they believe if the individual was True Blooded; they can absorb some of their power and strength.
Lore
The origin of Malar is unknown. Some believe he emerged from a flaw left by Gond within the first human. Others believe he was an avatar of
Tempus, God of War who rebelled against the deity. Whatever his origin, the one constant is Malar's disdain for the gods. He was devoted to severing the connection of Terrania to the gods. His mortal enemies were Tyr, but also later on Sune, Torm, and Helm. Malar was one of the first entities
Bane, God of Oppression, Dominance and Tyranny allied with prior to The Shattering. During the war between Gods, Malar spent much of his time on Terrania, corrupting the lands and empowering the enemies of The Pantheon. He is famous for slaying Themis, son of Tyr and brother of
Talista, The Nemesis Justicar . His battle with Talista left him severely wounded, and he entered the climactic battle weakened. After the condemned gods defeat, Malar retreated to his realm, and continued his goal of corrupting Terrania.
