Academic Symposiums

Academic presentations were a type of entertainment in the 1800’s. Typically, they would cover topics of new scientific discovery, political debate, or other “hot” new topics that might be of interest to an educated or gentile individual. These lectures were attended by those interested in the topic or sometimes even by those just curious to learn a new thing. While many lectures were academically and factually founded, there was a certain niche of presentations on what would, today, be considered the supernatural, mystical, or outright ludicrous. The middle class and upper class were most likely to attend academic lectures as a form of entertainment.   In Eisen, lectures are offered to the general public by various guilds and by both universities to the public. Examples of this might be the discovery of a new species, the basics of eletech technology, a specific study of a musical style, etc.   More select lectures are offered to members of the universities and official guild members but these tend to be directed more toward a specific knowledge subset or more esoteric knowledge aimed at those who have beyond basic background knowledge.

Participants

While many guilds offer lectures throughout the year, lectures are particularly popular forms of entertainment sponsored by The Grand Society of Adventurers and Explorers, the The Gilded Library of Scribes, Historians, Archivists, and Clerks, the The Union of Naturalist Professionals and both the Academia Casus and The Academy of Adventuring Arts.
