Playable Races

Characters may be a race from any listed below using the following rules.

Customizing Your Origin

We will be using the "Customizing Your Origin" features in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, page 7.   In short, this means:
  • You may customize your Ability Score Increase trait, if your race has one, and assign the ability score increases in a way that's tailored for your character.
  • All races know Common and one other language based on your origin and background.
  • You can replace proficiencies with a different proficiency of your choice using the following table:

Custom Lineage

If there are no races that match the themes of the character that you're looking for, or you're looking for a bloodline that doesn't quite match the given races, there are two options:
  1. Ask the storyteller staff if you can use the Custom Lineage variant (below)
  2. Ask the storyteller staff if you can use the mechanics of another race and change how the character looks.
As an example, if you wanted to play a Kitsune as a shapeshifting fox beastkin with ties to the Feywild, but didn't want to use the Shifter rules, you could use the Changeling rules and flavor your natural appearance as a humanoid fox instead of a race that's related to dopplegangers.

Custom Lineage

Creature Type. You are a humanoid. You determine your appearance and whether you resemble any of your kin. Your race is considered to be a Custom Lineage for any game feature that requires a certain race, such as elf or dwarf.   Size. You are Small or Medium (your choice).   Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.   Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 2.   Feat. You gain one feat of your choice for which you qualify.   Variable Trait. You gain one of the following options of your choice: (a) darkvision with a range of 60 feet or (b) proficiency in one skill of your choice.   Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and the Storyteller Staff agree is appropriate for your character.
