Magic Source are locations where two or more
Magic Threads make a knot. These locations can be either Divine or Arcane, depending on the threads that form the knot. These locations are ideal for wizards, druids, and clerics to build their headquarters on. Depending on the size of the knot (and threads), these can be either the size of a room or a city.
Divine Source
Whenever two or more threads of Divine magic create a knot, they form a Divine Source in the spot they formed the knot. These places allow easier access to divine energies. Clerics and Druids have an easier time communicating with their god and all divine casters have their powers increased.
True Gods can take ownership of a Divine Source, barring other divine casters from using it, if they don't follow their dogma. Such places are much stronger than unowned Divine Sources, building and defending a bastion of faith easier to do. Once the followers of the god are killed, routed out or just leave, the place can be taken over by a different god and his followers. Some cities that have Divine Sources in them or nearby bar such actions from happening, allowing all faiths (or none) to use the Source, not wanting a religious war going on in their backyard.
Arcane Source
Whenever two or more threads of Arcane magic create a knot, they form an Arcane Source in the spot they formed the knot. These can differ depending on the thread's main nature. They can be either Necromancy Sources, Abjuration Sources or other. If there isn't any type greater in number than the rest, they are just called Arcane Sources. Each Arcane Source increases the power of spells from the specialized school (or all but weaker). This is great for example for Necromancers that took over a Necromancy Source, granting them access to create more undead servants or Abjurers to create powerful wards in their Abjuration Sources. Due to this, many Schools of Magic formed (called
Tower of Magic), specialized only in one type of magic, as that is the source their building was built on.
Etherite Harvest
Each Source can generate a certain amount of
Etherite during a year (period, growth time, etc.). This is the second reason why these sources are contested and some powerful nations fight over them. While others bar access (sometimes only during harvest season), to gather the Etherite. These places are the most commonplace to find this resource.
