The Siege of Fort Viper

The Battle of Fort Viper was a major engagement between the Forces of King Harriatta of Teutonia and the Wolves of Norsca.

The Conflict

Prelude

Following the renewal of magics in August 1096, where the Nations managed to contain the threat of the Nything, tensions between the Wolves and Vipers came to head ending in conflict. The Vipers were forced to retreat back to their boarders where they stood their ground in Fort Viper. Winter left their supply lines stretched to the limit, but as the snows melted and the spring of 1097 began, Lord Wolf decided to press his advantage and attack.

Deployment

The other factions sent their own representatives to the fight, keen to find their own advantages in the situation. The Lions camped close to the Wolves, a clear indication of where their allegiance lay. The Gryphons of Estragales camped further away, there to serve as mediators in this ongoing conflict. The Fir Cruthen of Erin had also made the journey, but as yet had not chosen a side. Also present were those known as Nomads, of no fixed abode or allegiance.
The Gryphons made overtures to act as mediators, offering their skills as paid escorts to ensure the safety of emissaries as the Wolves and Lions attempted to convince the Vipers to lay down their arms.

The Engagement

From the safety of their fort, however, the Vipers refused to surrender, so it seemed inevitable that battle would be joined and when news reached the Wolves that Lord Viper’s magical halberd had been stolen, Lord Wolf made the decision to attack. The Vipers remained secure within their stronghold, while the Wolves and their allies surrounded them and laid siege to the fort. Despite their numerical advantage, the Wolves were unable to unseat their enemy and eventually the siege was broken.
