Dance of the Tree

Once a month, the Ochis Lyi gather around the Great Tree. The drums begin, a rythmic, old tune that thrums through the ground nonstop. Their feet soon join, beating to the contant beat, guiding them through the steps of the dance. They spin and jump, twisting and thrumming in cicles around the tree. Shouts and hollars ride in the din, filling the Great Tree till it shakes. The dance builds, growing faster and faster, the spinning growing wild and unkept till the perfect moment where it breaks, the drums stop, their feet still. Every member standing around the Source with their faces towards the night sky and their chests heaving.   The Source glows for a moment, bathed in starlight, and then the nigh goes quiet.   The Dance of the Tree has been completed, and the people have earned Lyi's favor for another month.

The Root of Belief

This dance is an old tradition. In fact, it is one of the pillars of the Ochis Lyi's practices. It's believed that it's this dance of worship, performed monthly on the new moon, that brings the smile of Lyi to their order. Without it, they fear they will fall from her favor and be lost without her provision.

Words of Faith

While the Order is dancing, the pastor reads an ancient passage from the Lyimon, written in ink on strange paper. It's tucked away in the center pages, added to the book rather than being apart of the original works. The words are spoken in time with the beat, just as the instructions command, even if their meaning is unknown.

The First Dance

The first dance was a much a much simpler affair. A couple men gathered in a forest clearing with little more than hope to guide them. One with a crumbling piece of paper, an incantation promised to bring them the the power they need given to them by an old witch.   They began clumsily, unsure of the dance steps, but soon fell into the rythm. regardless of what happened, they were instructed to dance, and dance they did.   Aroudn them, the world grew blurry and bright. They saw the form of a woman, short black hair and burning green eyes. They heard a scream, and the chanting rise in volume. They say the ground split and the trees reach out.   When the finally stopped and the chanting stopped in a ringing shout, a Tree had sprouted in the center of their circle, right infront of the chanting man. He reached out, and an apple grew from the branch, plump and red.   The Enchantment worked.   They just didn't think to wonder about the cost.
