Federal Monarchy of Al Achnon
The sea holds her breath, no waves and only the sound of the ship cutting through the blue waters. The sun beating relentlessly on our heads. Most of the crew have donned soaked bandanas to protect their scalps. Their backs are red and yearning for respite from the glaring heat. Achnon-Ankh, the falcon-headed god whose domain is the sun, proves to be a hard master this day. We've been sailing for months now and I crave nothing more than steady land under my feet and decent food in my belly. The stars and lay of the coastal lands in the far distance tell us that we should be reaching our destination soon and I pray I will not go mad before that. I close my eyes to shield myself from the endless shimmer of the sun on the skin of the sea, and when I look up again, my heart stops for a moment. In the distance, a figure more magnificent than an elven maiden, her head adorned with a crown of towers and domed roofs in bright colours. This is not the first time I lay my eyes on Sul Nahal, capital of Al Achnon, but each time she takes my breath away and I remember why they call her; The Pearl of the East.
Structure
Al Achnon is a collection of states, each ruled by Emirs. These states are collected into a federation ruled by the Grand King or Sultan of Sul Nahal.
Both the position of Emir and Sultan are hereditary in nature and follow the Primogeniture principle. Therefore several royal families control the politics of Al-Achnon.
The Emirs are largely free in how they govern their realm as long as they uphold the federal laws. Local laws may differ from region to region however.
The Sultan rules as Grand King over the other Emirs as a ruler of divine status. The Sultan is seen as the representation of Achnon-Ankh, the patron deity of the federation.
History
Roots of Al-Achnon lay with Tulsa the Seer a conquerer and holy man. He stated that he saw Kahaan united under the protective wings of the tribal god of the sun Achnon-Ankh. With this divine prerogative he left his home village with his followers. With a combination of evangelism and bloodshed, Tulsa the Seer conquered a larger portion of Al-Achnon and crowned himself Hierarch of Achnon-Ankh and divine King of the realm.
During the rule of many kings the realm of Al-Achnon was cemented and eventually even expanded, transforming the once tribal desert into a civilized realm of international importance. During this time Al-Achnon remained a Theocratic Monarchy, ruled by the divine Hierarch.
During the reign of Hierarch Yusa IV the Serpent, Al-Achnon fell into civil war. The Hierarch was deemed unworthy after he publicly executed his popular wife after accusing her of heresy. Loyalists and and rebel lords clashed in a long and bloody war. In an act of desperation, the rebel lords contacted the already crumbling society of the Kiz Yiarei in the jungles of Khao Mher. The Kiz Yiarei, in an attempt to strengthen ties with the Sekhmet, agreed and allied themselves with the rebel lords. With the help of the Kiz Yiarei, the rebel lords managed to capture Sul Nahal, the seat the Hierarch and dispose of him.
New negotiations on how to rule Al-Achnon began with Yusef bin Bizhan, descendant of Tulsa the Seer's second son, Rouza. Yusef was considered a major player in the civil war and gained a broad following. After weeks of negotiations, Al-Achnon was divided into regions ruled by Emirs as federated states to the Sultan of Sul Nahal. Within this structure the Emirs could rule with relative freedom while still enjoying the support of the great Al-Achnon realm and its other fedrated states. Yusef ibn Bizhan was crowned Sultan Yusef ibn Rouza.
