Pallid Knife

Dingy Tavern | Docksward, Heraldsport

A dirty, loud common room has too many tables slammed into its central open space where everyone’s chair rubs up against another. A dockworkers drinking hole, a room of short tempers and small minds quickly comes to the only solution—bar fight—way too quickly and way too many times a night for most visitors who ignore the obvious hostility when ‘walkers’ stop into their establishment.

The PALLID KNIFE is a dingy, two-level shanty-walled public house frequented by the dockworkers and strong-but-stupid sailors in search of a drink in the wrong establishment. The PALLID KNIFE is small, only three rooms on the main level: drinking room, a small cot and quarters for anyone unable to get home before the sun rises. A door near the back opens into what a few snatched glances show to be nothing but a storage room. On the second floor, there is a pair of small rooms that are contracted out to a roving cast of prostitutes that work under the stern gaze of Picket Diabri. In addition to these, there is a non-descript door which leads to a small room containing a table and chairs that is used for gambling, meetings or any other reason someone might want to put coin down to claim it.

The PALLID KNIFE’s liquid options are poor-quality but cheap with a few good bottles tucked away for ‘special occasions’…and a significant amount of coin or clout. The beer is weak and often has unfermented chunks floating within it that the bartender was too lazy to sift out of the tankard before serving it. The hard spirits consist primarily of whiskeys and dark-hued hokk that was likely whipped up in a laundry basin between last night and next. The prices, as noted, are commensurate with the service and substances.

The PALLID KNIFE is owned by VIKO LOCKSTYR and has been for over twenty years. He came up in the dockworkers and managed to hit enough scores, likely with the DOCK LORDS but he rarely talks and never about himself, that he was able to purchase the KNIFE and distribute his poor taste to the masses.

Purpose / Function

Primarily, it appears that its purpose is to quickly kill those who brave its wares. But, in addition to the prostitutes and the booze, the KNIFE is also the home for one of the Dock Lords crews led by Brion Three-Penny. They tend to never leave the place empty and BRION himself always seems to have a corner table.
