Lord Torua Macairn
At A Glance
A physically fit man in his early 40's, Lord Torua is a skilled warrior and commander, such skills being honed over a lifetime of border defense. He is short of temper when it comes to laziness amongst his soldiers or nonchalance about the dangers nearby from his people. He is accorded an able administrator though it is well-known that he attends to it much like battle: no mercy for that which stands between him and its completion.
As Lord of the Dainmouth, once the most northerly border of Auredain, Torua Macairn seems stamped from the mold of his father. Hard-nosed, hard-working and a capable warrior, he is much like every past Macairn in being methodical about his duties regarding border security. The family has held the lands on which Keep Macairn sits for four generations although Dainmouth Keep was gifted to his father when the Crown sought to place more responsibility for the outlying areas on the local nobles. The significant grant of land came with the caveat that the Macairn nobility would need to attract settlers to work it and hence the obsession with the border.
Rumors speak of occasional dark moods, brought on by melancholy and even wine, as Lord Torua rages against the death of his father at the beastmen over the border; slain like his grandfather in the countless minor raids against Auredain. His loneliness is no secret and he has not remarried since the death of his second wife in another ill-fated childbirth.
Physical Description
Apparel & Accessories
Lord Macairn has several battle harnesses fit for duty although he prefers to wear lighter armor when possible. His blade, handed down three generations, has never seen a whetstone or a weaponsmith and cleaves Orc flesh like cheese. He answers few questions about it but scoffs at the notion that it is enchanted. A work of old Aendor, he has said, and nothing more. His favorite charger is a chestnut that stands a hand-and-a-half higher than most others. He keeps a destrier in the stable but the heavy warhorse frustrates him as so much of the action seen is counter-raiding and patrols in force. The destrier, he has been known to complain, is a horse bred for a battlefield not a wilderness.
