Brakhur Dimmaster
King of the Dwarves (a.k.a. The Tall King, Old Red-Eye.)
Brakhur Dimmaster is tall for a dwarf, reaching a height of 5 feet and 3 inches, even without the royal crown.
The King's most striking feature is the polished ruby that he has in place of his right eye, which gleams as if with an inner light. Some say it is magical and allows him to see in utter darkness, and even into the darkness of people's souls.
Brakhur lost his eye in the subterranean battles against the Drow in the Underdark. The tale goes that he was separated from his regiment and lost in the maze of winding caverns when he came across a small band of Duergar in thrall to the Drow. He managed to defeat the troupe of grey dwarves in battle, but had his eye sliced open by one of them during the fight. Blinded and alone, Brakhur prayed to Moradin for aid in finding his way out of the unfamiliar tunnels.
As he tells it, he received no answer, but caught a sudden gleam like fire in the darkness. Bending low he observed the finest ruby he had ever seen embedded in a rock. Taking his small pick from his belt he chipped it free, and compelled by some strange will he raised it to his damaged eye.
Many doubt the veracity of this tale, but what is certain is that when Brakhur found his way back to the dwarven tunnels and emerged he was a changed dwarf. His right eye had been replaced with the gem, and he strode with a confidence and strength unlike any dwarf before. Together with Kramic Chainbrew he helped to rally the Dwarves and retake their mines, helping to end the war.
King Brakhur leads The Forging, the council that rules on dwarven matters, and has been widely judged to be a great and wise leader.
Brakhur has four children that he dotes on, along with his wife, Queen Habeth. They are Dourhak (98, male), Sagret (85, female twin), Toreaza (85, female twin), and Vozmot (46, male).
Appearance and Mannerisms
Tall, stocky and well built, Brakhur stands proud. He wears a neatly combed, long brown beard and gives the impression of an immovable object. Brakhur speaks softly in a considered manner. He will often stare at his companions for a while before answering questions, as though he is is looking into their souls. This softness should never be misinterpreted as weakness however. Once he has made his mind on a matter he cannot be moved and possesses a grim determination to see things through. King Brakhur likes to smoke tobac from a brass pipe that is fashioned like the neck and head of a golden dragon.Notable Achievements
With the death of Kramic Chainbrew, the next heir apparent to the throne of Koldor's Hold, the mantle fell upon Brakhur's shoulders. He was a reluctant King to begin with, but all agree that his rule of over 70 years has been wise and fortuitous. He successfully oversaw the rebuilding of the mines and holds of the Dwarf Clans after the war with the Drow, and it was under his orders that the great gates of Koldor's Hold were once again opened to the wider world. As well as King, Brakhur is also leader of the Dimmaster Clan.
