The Forging

The Forging is the name of the great council of the Dwarves that sits in the Chieftan's District of Koldor's Hold. It always numbers seven members, drawn from the most prominent of the clans. Membership normally passes down to the eldest child of preceding members by common consent, though the King can overule this.
Whilst ultimate power resides with the King the dwarf folk prefer to lead by negotiated concession, except in times of war, when the King and his generals take control of affairs.
The main topics of conversation amongst the council are relations with the outside world, the findings of their great delvings and minings, and the protection of their realm and immense wealth. They also rule on disputes between the clans and guilds of Koldor's Hold, and assign ambassadors (such as Dhonir Graystone) to other civilisations.
The Forging is said to have been founded by the dwarven hero Koldor.
