Koldor Dwarf Clans
In the great underground city of Koldor's Hold sits King Brakhur Dimmaster of the Koldor Dwarf Clans.
Atop his stone throne he rules a confederacy of the seven dwarf clans which are represented by a table of leaders known as The Forging.
Proud and spirited, the dwarven kingdom bridges a strange divide - that between the surface world and that of the Underdark. The world beneath the surface is probably where they feel most at home, despite the great dangers that can be found there. However, their lust for the gems and minerals of the mountains overcomes any fear, and the Hold has become the greatest collection of skilled miners, smiths, gemcutters and artisans in The Known World. They have become particularly adept at the working of Celestial Steel, to which, it is rumoured, The Weave can be bound and items of great power created.
Having reopened their doors to the surface world again after years of war against the Drow, the Clans have once again become a force to be reckoned with.
Whilst the Hold is the main centre of dwarven civilisation, the Clans hold territory of many miles in the tunnels and mines beneath the Balnoque Spine.
The seven dwarven families that currently comprise the Koldor Dwarf Clans are:
- The Dimmaster Clan - current leaders of the Koldor Dwarf Clans. A family of renowned warrior Mountain Dwarves. The patriarch of this clan of renowned Mountain Dwarf warriors is King Brakhur Dimmaster. It is rumoured that the great dwarf hero Koldor was a member of this clan.
- The Chainbrew Clan - prior leaders of the Koldor Dwarf Clans. This family of Mountain Dwarves brews the most popular Dwarven beer, Axegrinder Ale. The current leader of the clan is Thabrehilde Chainbrew, the grand-daughter of famed hero Kramic Chainbrew.
- The Ashenforge Clan - Famed smiths and stonecutters, this family of Mountain Dwarves sells its goods even in the markets of far Antaros. The Ashenforge dwarves are famed for their craftsmanship of jewels and had reputedly once crafted a piece of such quality that it caused a major dispute between them and the Runebeards. Their patriarch, Kussoc Ashenforge, is a member of The Forging.
- The Runebeards - A family of Mountain Dwarves. They are scholars and priests of Moradin, and hail from the southern reaches of the Balnoque Spine. Their leader, Simog Runebeard, sits on The Forging, the great council of the dwarves.
- The Battlehands - Famous warriors and leaders of the Iron Brigades, these Mountain Dwarves are hardy and strong, even compared to most Dwarves. Their leader, Thrastan Battlehand, is a member of The Forging and the current general of the dwarven armies.
- The Kragflayers - Specialists in surface warfare, especially siegecraft and engineering, this family of Hill Dwarves guards the northern borders of the Koldor Dwarf Clans lands against incursions of Orcs. Lady Fostargin Kragflayer leads the clan and is a member of The Forging.
- The Emberpike Clan - This large clan of Hill Dwarves is mainly responsible for the transport and selling of the goods made in Koldor's Hold. Their advice is greatly sought by the King in matters of surface world politics and news, and their leader Kavas Emberpike sits on The Forging.
