Disaster / Destruction
The waters of the world rose, and the lands of The Known World were completely flooded. Only once they had receded could new civilisations emerge.
The Great Deluge was the event that started the modern era, referred to as AtD (After the Deluge). During the Deluge, the waters of The Azure Sea and the oceans around the lands rose up, and all of the lands became flooded. Only the very tips of a few mountain ranges were left above the roiling waves, and to these isolated peaks a lucky few surface dwellers managed to escape and survive. What caused the Deluge is unknown, though most tales place the blame on the Antediluvians, the strange race of beings that lived in the lands before the flood. Some say they became too arrogant and threatened the Gods. Others say their scientists and sages created some kind of magical disaster. Others look to the myth of The Black Tide. Whatever the cause, the effects were catastrophic. The Elves tell the story of the Antarians as a way to explain what happened. Shortly after the Great Deluge, the waters sank once again, leaving the lands pretty much as they are today, but wiped clean of the Antediluvians so that new civilisations could emerge. Many cultures credit Procan with lowering the waters.
