Spells
Spells are objects that contain dormant magic that can be reawakened when it receives the appropriate amount of mana. The medium of a spell can be virtually anything, the pages in a wizard's spell book, acorns kept in a druid's pouch, or even the buttons on a traveler's coat.
Spellcasters tend to spend most of their downtime between combat either repairing their spell mediums, programming new magic into a spell, or restoring used-up magic in a spent spell. Mediums that require the spell to break in order to unleash their magic or to launch them toward the spell's target usually come with a way to either easily retrieve the spell or replace it in a quick manner. Spellslingers, mages who store their spells in a small projectile and launch it with slingshots, typically have a familiar to quickly retrieve the fired spells. Some mages also have bags that have all the spells attuned to it fly back inside of it when opened.
Using A Spell
As mentioned, the magic within spells only activates when it receives mana, meaning it requires its mage to use a device called a Focus to insert their own mana or mana already stored in their focus using Delvian Crystal. If given sufficient mana, mages would also give their spells an additional obstacle so as to not accidentally release their magic at an inopportune moment. This includes command words (typically a single word that is short and easy to pronounce) or a specific movement either the focus or the spell itself has to make (such as a swish or flick with a wand).Purchasing Spells
Most mages create their own spells and program them so that they can only be used by their creator, so as to not let enemies steal and use their own spells against them. Some mages sell their spells to other mages (though it is more typical for a mage to simply cast their own spells as a service), Forgers can also be commissioned for spells, which they use for their enchantments.
