The Pinelands
Forests of pines and oaks, cedars and beech, firs and maples... Trees upon trees swaying in the winds and chanting their thanks to Lord Oros and the Nature gods.
Geography
Situated the East and South of Eaglehaven, the lands are mostly rolling hills and farmlands with a scattering of forests and woodlands that came to give the region its name.
The Pinelands are technically the eastern foothills of the Dragon Range. The mountain range, including its Jagged Teeth, borders the north, west and south-west of the area. To the east are plains and farmlands. The area boasts a large numbers of woods and forests made out of a variety of trees though pines tend to feature prominently, thus giving the region its name.
The Pinewood River flows from the mountains past Winterhurst and Eaglehaven. Its two main tributaries are the Stratland and the Niarath, the second of which flows past Pinerest.
Natural Resources
The mountains are rich in iron and copper ores and also boast rich veins of both gemstones (principally diamonds, rubies and emeralds) and true ice growing beneath the slopes of the highest mountains in the range. The Jagged Peaks and the area directly south of them (between Pinerest and Aynford) and all the way down to the Niarath River is rich with clay which is naturally coloured a variety of shades, making it prised by crafters. Limestone is abundant around the Jagged Peaks and immediately round them.
Further south and along the Dragon Range foothills are the famous forests and woods of the Pinelands. Pines, oaks, cedars, beech, firs and maples are the main types of woods that can be found in those forests. But there is also a good supply of steelwood, though it is harder both to grow and to harvest. The main supply of steelwood grows around Bruderhead.
History
The Pinelands were annexed in 1273 by the Blanchard Dynasty. They seceded in 1498, following the lead of Eaglehaven.
