Jean is the elder repository of the traditional music of the island. She is a carder and spinner, and a fiddler. In her relationship with other musicians on the island, Jean is in equal measures delighted and frustrated by Braden Davis: delighted that he is carrying on the torch of the music, frustrated that he's playing that ridiculous "toy" flute instead of a proper instrument of the island.
