The Broken World

The gods are dead.   Everyone knows this fact, although no one can tell you how or why. If you asked someone to name a god, they would not be able to. But the gods are dead, everyone is sure of that. And darkness followed their demise.   But from that period of darkness and lost history, civilizations grow anew. Towns and villages are built with strong walls to keep out the monsters that manifest in the wild places. City-states are established on the rubble of apocalyptic battlefields. Empires horde ancient secrets while still trying to establish trade and military dominance over their neighbors. Slowly, progress returns as the cultured races develop over a thousand years.   But the world is not tamed, and still harbors strange secrets and amazing oddities. Just outside those city walls and well-guarded roads are miracles both wonderous and horrifying. For the brave, the curious, and the stupid, there is riches and fame to be made in the lost places in the world, just as much as in service to the growing political powers of the day.   Lost civilizations, ancient technologies, and barbarians from the wilds. All of it is out there for you to find. And maybe you will stumble across an answer to a much more troubling question:   If the gods are dead, what killed them?
