Cluck was a chicken who lived in The Shire during the late third age of Middle-Earth's history. He was best friends with Duppy another chicken owned by the same farmer.
When the Fallohide Genocide broke out, Cluck's owner was among those targeted as a Fallohide sympathizer. As a result, he was chopped to pieces by a machete wielding mob of hobbits. The mob began killing the livestock as well, but Duppy and Cluck managed to escape. After consulting the Wise Toad went to Farmer Maggot's farm, only to find him already dead. They joined a chicken resistance led by George, but the hobbit mob defeated them in battle. As the only survivors of the battle, Duppy and Cluck fled out of the Shire and into the Old Forest where they felt the influence of Tom Bombadil and quickly fled.
After this they made their way eastward until they reached Ost Guruth where they met Radagast. He advised them to head to Rivendell where they could find safety. Unfortunately, Cluck was killed by a wandering turtle in the Fords of Bruinen. Duppy mourned for his fallen friend, but had to move on in order to survive himself.
While Cluck was killed, his legacy would live on in the many adventures his friend would have with Isengriff and Lindonrow.
