Eladrin

Eladrin are colourful elves, with skin and hair in shades of blue, red, green and yellow. They tend to be slightly smaller than Western elves, rarely taller than 5'5". They are highly-ranked in the Celestial religion, considered to be semi-divine; the offspring of Aela, granddaughter of the First Empress, who married the wind. The different types of Eladrin represent the wind in its four guises.   Eladrin have been a significant racial minority in the Empire since its inception, and can be in high Castes, enjoying all the privileges that come with this. The majority of half-elves are half-eladrin, as sea-elf and drow communities tend to be very insular.   Eladrin can choose to align themselves with the North, South, East, or West Winds. Certain winds are associated with certain Castes and social positions. Changing to an incongruous combination is often met with derision. In some Provinces, it is even against the law.     West Wind: Eladrin of the West Wind function like autumn eladrin. This Wind is considered appropriate for Eladrin working as diplomats and artisans in the Jade, Amber and Ivory Castes.   North Wind: Eladrin of the North Wind function like winter eladrin. This Wind is usually considered appropriate for those of authority in the Lotus or Orchid castes.   East Wind: Eladrin of the East Wind function like spring eladrin. These eladrin are usually either dancers or courtesans in the Ivory Caste, court ladies in the Amber Caste, or Orchid Caste aristocrats who are to be married to higher-ranked nobility.   South Wind: Eladrin of the South Wind function like summer eladrin. This is the wind of choice for eladrin who wish to become soldiers or guards. As such the vast majority of Southern eladrin are in the Amber Caste, or high-ranking military officials in the Orchid Caste.

Eladrin Names

Many eladrin follow aasimar naming conventions. However, when an eladrin comes of age and settles upon a Wind, they often choose a virtue name, particularly those of lower Castes for whom family lineage is less important.   Example Virtue Names: Providence, Devotion, Temperance, Blessings, Redemption
