House of Himberg

"Deep in the Himwood lies the House of Himberg, a wise and old half-faerie wearing a crown of daisies, who created a community of outcasts. It is said that his presence provides protection from the deceptive forests and faerie creatures that reside within.   Himberg was born as a human boy. One day his mother took him berry picking in the forest, when a faerie saw the human baby. Her own child cried much too loud for her liking, so she took Himberg and left his weight in daisies as payment. Himberg was raised by the faeries and years in their presence made him into a half-faerie. Yet, he never became ageless like those that cared for him, and when he grew too old for them they asked him to leave and go back to the humans. Himberg, who had grown fond of his life with the faeries, asked if he could make a home of his own in the forest and the faeries agreed. Though the faeries asked him to leave, they had grown attached to Himberg and have watched over him ever since.   Himberg set out to build a house for himself. From the outside it looks quite unimpressive, but on the inside it contains many rooms, hallways and corridors, many more than one would expect. Over the years Himberg attracted other people Some of them were lost in the forest and were offered a place to stay, others were outcasts who were looking for a new home.   Around the House of Himberg the other people built their homes and it did not take long for the community to attract other people. Though the community is only small, and hidden in the forest, it sees enough travellers, both to and from the forest, both willing and unwilling, to support the local tavern and lodging house.   It isn't much, but it's home."   D. Harewood, Fendalian Cartographer
