Djinn Species in The Crossroad Realms | World Anvil

Djinn

Elemental Genies of Air and the rulers over Auria.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid, though they tend to be significantly taller than humans. The average height is around 10 feet.   Coloration is usually in shades of pale blue, but various shades of brown are also common. Hair is monochromatic, usually black or white.

Genetics and Reproduction

Djinn reproduction is deliberately similar to that of humans, and they can interbreed with most humanoid species. However, the offspring is always a Genasi.

Ecology and Habitats

Djinn originate in Auria, but like any sapient species, many travel vocationally and can be found throughout the Realms. However, their spiritual and biophysiological connection to the element of air can cause severe stress, so a djinn is unlikely to settle far from Aurian skies.

Behaviour

Being made from the essence of Air, Djinni are exceptionally lightweight for their size. They generally stand around 10 ft. in height, and assume a mostly humanoid shape, though many integrate air and wind into their appearance, having hair like a hovering cloud, or a tapered lower half like a tornado.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As elemental creatures, all djinni have an innate ability to command the air and wind. Even an untrained djinn can easily conjure gales and stormclouds. A djinn who trains their powers can accomplish even greater feats, such as summoning hurricanes or lightning strikes, or transforming into a whirlwind.   Like all genies, djinn do not need to breathe or eat, though many still enjoy food for its own sake.

Civilization and Culture

History

A created species, Djinn share a similar origin to their Dao, Efreeti, and Marid cousins. Created at the same time as Primus, Genie are the result of pure elemental essence mixing with sapience and soul. Whether this creation was intentional or not, by whom, and what for, is a matter of debate.
