The Last Scattering
The Last Scattering is the name given to the resumption of outwards migration from Earth into the wider galaxy, a process of dispersion and dilution which had been underway for countless millenia before the Great Forgetting and one which resumed again in the World of the Long Sleep in 2087 AF after the Helix Nebula Transit Agreement came into force for the Stained Worlds Sector.
At first, the numbers taking advantage of the new opportunities were relatively small, although still more significant than the trickle of adventurous individuals who had left Earth in the earlier Friendship Missions. The new wave of colonists found many strange and wonderful worlds living under the aegis of the Galactic Compact and not least amongst them, long lost cousins who were the decendants of earlier forgotten emigrations from Earth.
When the Meta Gradient and Old Wave Sectors were added to the terms of the Transit Agreement in 2483 AF a great number of attractive systems were open for the citizens of Earth for travel and settlement. The numbers leaving the planet increased significantly and this process accelerated further when the second space elevator opened up at Helsporan in 2851 AF.
