The Maelstrom
The Maelstrom radiates a bluish-purple light while surrounded by the dark void of space. Occasionally a tendril of cosmic energy lashes out from the center before shriveling up.
Geography
The Maelstrom is a small Nebula that is made up of a cloud of gas and dust in the center of what remains of Kios. It irradiates large amounts of energy and acts as a pseudo- sun for the planet
Localized Phenomena
Once a month, the Maelstrom will erupt with cosmic energy, engulfing all of Kios in bright lights. Additionally, during this event, many feel their connection to the Maelstrom grow, and this event is called The Day of Wonders.
History
The Maelstrom was once the core of the planet Kios, and its unlimited energy was what fueled the planet's industrial growth. However, during the Lyrium War an unknown group infiltrated the kingdom of the dwarves and de-activated the cores safety protocols. Soon the core became unstable and destroyed the planet from the inside, leaving only 4 Islands of livable space.
