Lyrium War

A group known as The Freemen of the Dales, who had been at odds with the Tevinter Imperium for years, destroyed a fuel depot at the Orzammar Station. The Imperium took this chance to implement martial law on Kios restricting all access to trade and resources coming to and from the planet. While very few outright battles happened, there was still plenty of bloodshed. The Freemen's main goal was to disrupt daily functions in Tevinter through assassinations and the use of Lyrium explosives. Other the other side, the Imperium would use their large military force to conduct raids and defend key outposts and officials. After 52 years of disrupting the Imperium's regime, the Freemen of the Dales finally decide it is time for it to end. They make one final assault on the capital, stealing ancient elven artifacts and killing many within. They also commandeered the Emperor's royal ship and traveled along The Imperial Highway, never to be seen again.

The Conflict

Prelude

When the Tevinter Imperium begun sending elven citizens to work in the mines of Selune, the Freemen of the Dales saw this as the last straw and decided to take military action.

Outcome

The Imperium decided to cut off all trade and travel between countries in an attempt to deter the Freemen. However, this had the opposite effect, as now, The Freemen of the Dales could rally support against the Imperium and there practices.

Aftermath

After the Freemen left the planet with their elven artifacts, the Imperium closed The Imperial Highway, only allowing certain permitted vessels from leaving the planet. 
This created resentment towards the Imperium by common citizens as many of their livelihoods came through trade.

Legacy

The Imperial Highway still remains closed and only ships with the correct paperwork can come and go from the planet.

Being a small militia, The Freemen of the Dales strength comes from their skill in espionage and sabotage. Explosives and poisons are their expertise.

Being the major military power in Kios, they had access to a large cast of weapons. Additionally, they were able to put all of the planet on lockdown, restricting access to food, travel, and other logistics.
