The planet of Kios is the smallest planet in the Fulmenos System

Geography

Kios once had many different regions and climates but after the The Collapse it was separated into four islands.
Amaranthine - Universities, Laboratories, and other scientific work is done here.
Kal- Sharock  - The Industrial Island. The Carta control the power plants that reside here. Additionally, it is home to many of the population of Kios.
Par Vollen - The Capital Island of Kios. Home to the Tevinter Imperium and the rest of the upper class
New Antiva - The Chantry are in control here with their mega-churches. They control the export of crops and other harvested goods since New Antiva is the only place in Kios capable of farming.

Localized Phenomena

Once a month, the Maelstrom will erupt with cosmic energy, engulfing all of Kios in bright lights. Additionally, during this event, certain magic users become more powerful. Not much is known about this anomaly, but it is now a holiday known as  The Day of Wonders

Climate

Without access to sunlight, artificial light is used to simulate a day/night cycle. Additionally, a heating system runs through each island to make sure citizens don't freeze.

Natural Resources

A strange crystal called Lyrium comes from the nearby moon, Selune.

History

Kios used to be full of vast oceans, deep underground caves, and many large continents, but after The Collapse, the world was changed forever.

Kios once had a large sun that it orbited and would allow for the planet to have a day/night cycle. The means by which the sun vanished are unknown, and many theories ponder its disappearance. The Chantry believe that long ago, a dragon of blazing starlight absorbed the sun's energy shrouding the solar system in darkness. They believe that their god, a giant silver dragon named Selune  battled this Sun Dragon until it was gravely wounded and fled to the Frozen Sea . Selune rested on a nearby moon, imbuing it with her essence, thus creating Lyrium .

Tourism

Many years ago, The Imperial Highway was open to all visitors from the Frozen Sea and strang new races would visit. However, after the Lyrium War, Aurelian Titus closed off this Astral Highway not allowing anyone to leave or visit.
