Ulysses Remulos
Introduction
Fleets Commodore Ulysses Remulos, later First High General of the Holy Army, is a major character in The Earth Chronicles III. Ulysses is a veteran soldier of the war between the Holy Thermydorian Empire and the United Liberation Front Rebellion, partaking in the first campaigns of the conflict. A natural leader and war strategist, Ulysses led countless victories due to his innate war intellect, and soon climbed through the ranks of The Holy Army. He was amongst those selected to command one of the several Cradles that were constructed, and after a successful major campaign in the southern region of Victoria, Ulysses ascended to the rank of Fleets Commodore, supervising all campaigns directed by the Cradles and prioritizing strategy points. His reputation as a master of war has placed him as a legend to the likes of the old king Trinidad, however he despises the comparison as he saw Trinidad as a self-righteous rebel.Ulysses respects his half-brother Eric Garland for having a similar intellectual skill set for the war, however upon realizing that Thenchi Blackrock, the prophesized champion of the war had joined Eric's Cradle, his focus shifted to Eric and Thenchi.
The Obsidian Mercenary Arc
As part of a scheme to assess an outer-worldly threat, Ulysses seeks to have an audience with the Duke of Valkyria City Vincent Getts. His daughter Cordelia Remulos volunteers with great enthusiasm, but Ulysses shows reluctance due to the dangerous nature of this task. However, knowing that Cordelia had been recently Mana-enhanced by Mars Rayleonard and his Project NEXT, Ulysses lets Cordelia take on the job but on the condition she finds proper muscle to keep her safe. Cordelia brings Thenchi back to their home, much to Ulysses's surprise but nonetheless praises Thenchi's exploits as a solder of the Holy Army, despite knowing that Thenchi had also been a test subject for Project NEXT.Days later into the Valkyria job, Ulysses learns that the city had been obliterated by the outer-worldly threat known as Dragzil. After learning from several sources, including survivors and Vincent Getts himself, Ulysses issues an arrest warrant against Thenchi, and seeks him out inside the Mercenaries Guild. Ulysses then takes the role as general prosecutor in the trial against Thenchi, and despite providing evidence to blame Thenchi for the destruction of Valkyria City, Vincent Getts testifies that Thenchi did nothing wrong by standing up against the real perpetrator of the attack, Dragzil. However, due to the intrusion of Cradle Commander Beatrix Neero who crashes the trial and clears up the argument by stating that Thenchi involved himself in matters that did not concern him, Thenchi is ultimately found guilty. Ulysses's relationship with Beatrix is strained, but part of him is still thankful as he felt Vincent's testimony could have saved Thenchi.
