Xenibus
This is a massive asteroid that is rich in Radiolite.
Radioliteis why the Corp originally built their space station and mine here 207 years ago. About 40 years in, however, they transitioned the labor over to prisoners, after winning a contract from XXXXX government.
Ecosystem
There is a fragile but active ecosystem on the asteroid which was started by a wayward interspace menagerie that crashed into the asteroid. It is founded on a symbiotic lichen that feeds off of Radiolite similar to terran plants thrive in sunlight. This ecosystem does have viscious predators, who also add danger to the humans who live on the station. In fact, the people living on the station often go out in hunting parties to cull the animals and also provide sell the animals caught for food. the Corp does provide food in monthly shipments, but it is barely enough to keep people alive. Thus, the active hunting activity.
History
Approximately 100 years ago, a wandering menagerie owner was looking for new venues and thought that the prison might be a unique place to make money. Unfortunately for her, the stations defenses detected the space vessel as a threat and shot it down. The ship was able to crash land on the asteroid, killing most, but not all of the animals and plants on the ship. Due to the presence of Radiolite, a lichen known to be symbiotic with one of the plants was able to use the specific energy given off by Radioliteto proliferate, forming the basis for a fragile, but active ecosystem on the asteroid. The ecosystem is fully composed of plants and creatures that do not require oxygen or sunlight.
