Vernilet Family

The Vernilet Family is one of the six ruling houses of Reishi Island. They do not have as great of a presence on the island as some of the other families, they own a staggering number of businesses, second only to Raze, and even that is arguable). Despite their relatively small impact on the political scene of Korosa, the Vernilet family is known far and wide across the expanse, as they are the ones in charge of Reishi's diplomacy.

Structure

Only three of the Vernilet Family's members are present on Reishi island, though there are several more spread out across the Expanse, either traveling on long-winded diplomatic missions or married in to other families to secure an alliance. On the island, Davion Vernilet is the father and head of the family, Viera Vernilet is the mother (who married in), and Kodal Vernilet is the son. Davion is considered to be the leader of the family and as such is the Oligarch, as he is the one related by blood to the noble Vernilet line, while Viera is not originally Reishi.   On top of his duties as an Oligarch, Davion manages the Hano Theater. Meanwhile, Viera runs Sunbleached, the Vernilet's tailor and haberdashery.

Culture

The Vernilets are aggressively polite and endlessly accommodating - or so they seem to be. In truth, even the fifteen year old Kodal is already a master of manipulation, able to convince you to hand over your life and still feel as though you've come out on top. They are characterized by intense charisma and ambiguity of intention. Most agree that the Vernilets should, by all rights, be dominating the social scene in Korosa, and yet they are somehow comparatively small players in the political game.

Public Agenda

Officially, it is the Vernilets' job to maintain relations with everyone in the Expanse. They handle alliances, have a major say in determining when it is time to go to war, entertain guests to the island, and generally cover anything diplomatic - and they do it well.

Assets

As an Oligarchic family, the Vernilets have a sixth of the idyllic Citadel Armarantha to themselves, but they also own an ancestral home in the Hano district should they ever lose their position on the council. The family also owns Wineflow and the Seadog Inns, the Layflower and the Amazing Chest brothels, Silverlace the cobbler, Sunbleached the clothier A Close Shave the barber, Saltwell Bathers the spa and launderer, and Hano Theater.

Vulnerable is the one sickened by sweetness.
