Heaven (HEH-venn)
Heaven is a dimensional plane, and the final resting place of those who were virtuous in their lives. It is also the realm of angels. Its ruler is Evelyn, the Goddess of Light.
Geography
Heaven goes on forever, and is made up of many floating islands, upon which are many settlements, shops, cities, and other such areas. Below is a vast ocean, which also has many lush, temperate continents and landmasses. Here, the climate is always temperate with pleasantly low humidity and the occasional gentle breeze. The sky is always bright blue and clear of clouds, with a sun that never stops shining. At the "center" of Heaven is the City of Angels, where the angels and Evelyn's headquarters are located. It is here that they discuss strategy, make battle plans against devils, educate new, young angels and cherubs who have not become fully fledged angels yet, and train angels in Heaven's military. Most importantly, the City of Angels connects to the outer settlements where angels live peacefully, leading lives free of sin and full of virtue.
Ecosystem
Heaven's ecosystem is dependent on the mortal world; that is to say, every lower lifeform that dies ends up here. All animals, insects, and other such non-sapient creatures, automatically make it into Heaven. This is a great comfort to many, as they are able to see their pets and enjoy their company again. Plants do not have "souls" in a proper sense, so all of the flora in Heaven is handcrafted by the angels and, occasionally, Evelyn herself.
Localized Phenomena
- High-Speed Internet Access: The internet speeds are unparalleled in Heaven, primarily due to how technologically advanced angels have become. It should be noted that the internet in Heaven are a "closed" system: departed souls and angels may only communicate and interact with other departed souls and angels. Heaven's internet does not connect or affect the mortal realm in any way. For the races that had not experienced human internet during life, this is an astonishing novelty.
- Sin Removal: Upon entering Heaven, mortals will notice that any vague sinful desires they may have had in life are no longer present. Although the truly sinful never enter Heaven, this phenomena removes the unconscious or limited desire to sin from good people, ensuring they become the best version of themselves once they arrive. People will never feel the need to over-eat or over-indulge in any kind of pleasure, and they feel a sense of "having enough" that varies by the individual. Additionally, individuals in Heaven assist and support each other without feeling as if they require any sort of compensation; the act of kindness itself is enough to ensure an individual feels fulfilled.
- Unrestricted Magic: Mortals who enter and begin to live in Heaven will be surprised to find that they have unlimited access to magic, regardless of their penchant for it in their original lives, as well as whatever the limits of their magical pool were in life. Additionally, it seems the diversity rule of magic (that one cannot practice more than two types of magic without the resulting magic becoming weaker) does not apply in Heaven: mortals are free to learn as many and as much magic as they like, essentially giving them the ability to do whatever they want (save the things that magic cannot possibly do, such as time travel). However, it should be noted that all magic performed by mortals in Heaven is confined to the peak of mortal limits; a mortal soul will never be able to become more powerful than an angel, even in death.
Climate
Heaven's temperature is always temperate and low in humidity. As such, animals in Heaven no longer feel the need to engage in their usual hibernation, migration, or other such phenomena, since everywhere in Heaven is pleasant to live in.
Fauna & Flora
All flora in Heaven is created by the angels and Evelyn. All fauna is the result of those same animals and other organisms dying in the mortal realm.
History
Evelyn was one of the first gods created by Eris back before there was anything at all. When asked to help Eris create the universe, she and her brother, Erebos, stepped forward first, to create the first life in the universe: angels, and devils. Angels were made to be the personification of all that was pure and incorruptible, and devils were made to be earthly creatures of desire. These two races were meant to balance each other out, creating harmony, but unfortunately, it was not to be. Angels found devils to be repugnant, primarily due to their desires and the way they sustained themselves; namely sexual and emotional energy. Devils, in turn, found the angels to be haughty and self-righteous, thinking it impossible to meet their moral standards. The two races could not agree on who was in the right, and arguments and debates turned into open fighting as they began to insult one another.
Evelyn and Erebos descended into the world below to try and mitigate the fighting, but instead found themselves soon fighting with each other directly. Like their creations, they could not agree on which race was correct, allowing the conflict to grow and fester. Finally, they declared all-out war on each other, beginning the War of Light and Dark. Each god took the side of their own children, and many lives were lost in the opening days. Stalemate wasn't far away, it seemed, until Evelyn and Erebos created seven champions for their individual sides. Evelyn created the Seven Virtues, naming them Charity, Chastity, Diligence, Humility, Kindness, Patience, and Temperance. Erebos created the Seven Sins, naming them Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth, and Wrath. These champions were meant to be far more powerful than any angel or devil that had come before, their battles splitting the skies and shaking the earth. The other gods watched on in horror at how quickly the war had spun out of control, but at the same time, felt any intervention on their part would only worsen the conflict. Therefore, they observed and did nothing.
Finally, Eris himself descended to the mortal world and brought a swift and merciless end to the war. All fourteen champions perished in his assault, much to the grief of Evelyn and Erebos. Once the dust had settled, Eris demanded that angels and devils be banished from the mortal realm, to prevent such a war from ever occurring again. Evelyn kept her angels close to her and created Heaven, a realm of pure goodness and light. Her hope was that this sanctuary would protect her children from the evils and temptations the devils had.
