Power Armor (POW-err arr-MURR)

Power armor is a human invention, used primarily by the human government.

Utility

Power armor is given standard issue to each human soldier, and as such, is used to greatly enhance the strength and speed of the human military.

Manufacturing

Power armor is created by way of assembly line with little to no human interaction: all the manufacturers are robotic. Only one or two human overseers are assigned to any given factory to ensure that the process goes smoothly.

Social Impact

Power armor was created shortly after energy weapons, and gave humanity an even greater advantage over the non-human races.
Inventor(s)
Power armor was created by human researchers and scientists, working jointly with an AI designed to create weapons.
Access & Availability
Power armor is used primarily by the human government and its army, and is illegal for normal citizens to own. Therefore, it is extremely rare and difficult to obtain.
Complexity
Power armor is made from a special anti-magic alloy invented by humans — a mixture of plastic and metal that negates any magic impacting it, up to a certain threshold. It has a vast array of technologies designed to enhance, improve, and protect the user. Some notable technologies are:
  • Accelerated Healing: While wearing the suit of power armor, it will assist the wearer's natural regeneration, allowing them to heal from even grievous wounds in under ten minutes, barring any destruction to the suit itself.
  • Energy Shields: Though usually invisible, there are in fact, energy shields around each set of power armor. These can be activated and deactivated at will, but are usually left on for extra protection. When hit, the forcefield appears as an almost-skintight layer of blue hexagons around the wearer. The forcefield's energy is limited, and it must be depleted before any actual damage can be done to the power armor itself.
  • Enhancement: The power armor can provide the wearer with superior speed, strength, and reflexes, giving them attributes equal with, if not greater than, elves.
  • Magical Immunity: As a result of its materials, power armor is immune to any and all magic — up to a certain point. As with most of the suit's features, its tolerances were made with combating elves, one of the strongest and fastest races, in mind; however, stronger beings, like angels, devils, and dragons, were not accounted for. Magic from any of these races is enough to overload the suit's systems and penetrate the metal-plastic alloy.
  • Scanner Vision/Threat Assessment: Every helmet for a suit of power armor has an AR hud, that can accurately and swiftly assess a wide variety of information about their opponent, such as age, weight, height, race, magical ability, and most importantly, how much of a threat they pose to the wearer. Many of these attributes were discerned by feeding information about a vast variety of people from all different races, in hopes that the AI could then learn large amounts of information about an individual just by looking at the miniscule details of their appearance. This system is not perfect, and the AI can sometimes get the details wrong. However, its results are correct up to 80% of the time. The suit also possesses a lightning-fast IFF detection module, allowing the wearer to quickly discern between friend or foe during battle.
  • Security Failsafes: Every suit of power armor MUST be registered to a member of the human military before it can be used. After this, no one else is able to operate the specific set of armor in question except its registered user, as the "credentials" are the user's DNA. When and if a soldier dies, the power armor will automatically wipe its own "memory", and become available for use by a new registered user. This is the only scenario in which its failsafes can be disabled, and in which the suit can potentially fall into enemy hands. There are several other failsafes as well, such as:
    • Psychological Assessment: If the power armor deems its user mentally unfit for combat, the suit will lock up, effectively paralyzing the user until deactivated.
    • Threat Detection: If the power armor does not sense that the target is a threat, it will refuse to obey the user. This feature was repeatedly overriden by the human government during the war: the suit would initially refuse to recognize civilians of another race as a threat, frustrating any number of soldiers.
Discovery
When the Great War was in its early stages, humanity quickly realized that, to have any hope of winning, they would need to get faster and stronger. So, with the help of artificial intelligence, they created power armor - a highly durable exosuit with a vast array of features designed to keep the user safe and to aid in victory. With the help of their power armor, they were able to easily push back the non-human forces.
