The War of Justification

The War of Justification began in 1564 ME, starting as a series of skirmishes on the borders of Eskijan and The Kingdom of Sheora. Political uncertainty led to the first year and a half of the war being relatively cold in effect, but a renewed push from King Nicolas II of Sheora led to the start of a draft and the formation of a larger invasion army by the start of 1566 ME. Sheora began its invasion in full force in the early months of that year, and though Eskijan has held the other nation back, machinations by multiple forces are in place that could substantially alter the course of the war for both sides.
The war's name comes from its political necessity for both countries. Sheora seeks to prevent popular uprising amongst its people by demonstrating what the crown believes to be truth: that a country without strong, centralized power is necessarily too weak to stand on its own. On the other hand, Eskijan hopes to not only defend itself from the larger nation but to justify its government and political place in the world. In the eyes of many, this war will justify either monarchy or democracy.
