The Everice is a massive continent to the north of pure Ice and cold. Every winter The Everice stretches down beyond its normal boundary.
One of the "Four Evers" from which the world gets its name, very little is known about the ever itself. Technically the Ever is the twin or
The Everstorm in the way it seems to be a neverending cyclone of wind, though with ice instead of water in the case of
The Everstorm. The northern continent is also called the EverIce which is the location of the ever itself.
Due to the freezing temperatures, very few of the mortal races have wandered there. The only known settlement is the Ice Giant town of Thrymheim located on the most southern point just north of the Otusii Isles. The
Ice Giants have been known to trade occasionally with those who can placate the warriors home though often at extreme peril. Travelers who have returned from Thrymheim say that it is a labyrinth of ice and stone and its leader, Yarl Varil, is an imposing but fair negotiator.
Thrymheim
Thrymheim is seen by passing sailors as a gargantuan watchtower manned by vigilant
Ice Giants who occasionally fire upon unwelcome ships, the Tahage Empire has a non agression pact for when their navy ships passes by.
Seasonal Expansion
The EverIce seems to expand with the winter season. In frigid winters, it is not uncommon for the entire northern sea to freeze solid and see
Ice Giants walking to the southern coasts. It was this that led the Tahage Empire to create the Winter Canal in an attempt to bypass some of the frozen sea.
Myths and Legends
Many myths and legends have popped up over the years, some say that the goddess of winter, Veotl, makes her home at the center of the EverIce, others say that the EverIce itself is Veotl. When asked, the
Ice Giants claim that the center is a holy place where only they are welcome or able to go and refuse to offer up much more information than that, getting angry is the subject is pushed.
The Great Winter of 412 IC
In 412 IC, during the harshest winter in recorded history, the sea froze so far south that Frostfire Island was entirely encased in ice. The Everice was visible in the sky as far south as Coldhold, marking the largest expansion ever recorded. Lakes and rivers much further south froze over, and snow fell in the typically arid Vani Desert. The reason for this unprecedented spread remains unknown, but the dramatic increase in worshipers, offerings, and prayers to Veotl during this period elevated her to the status of a greater deity.
Additional Details
Flora
The everice is devoid of normal flora, several magical herbs and plants that seem to be unique to the region have been found, all very resiliant plants that can withstand the extreme weather. Such specimins that are currently reside in
Eaglecliff University include:
Frostboom - A glowing plant that grows below ice in caverns, can be used to create a potion that grants resistance to the cold or can be used as a poltice that is an effective treatment for frostbite. Many Traders from the Coldhold Kingdom will hunt for this plant due to its high demand
Wiltmoss - A highly bioluminescent moss that grows in various colours. Grows deep within the contient, it is only known due to the
Ice Giants using it for lunination and decoration of their halls, its also a regrediant for powerful enchantements.
Veotl's Tears - Growing on frozen bushes, these are pearlescent berries and the only known form of edible fruit and sustinence on the continent. Often used as an alternative for healing potions.
