A4: Whale

The A4: Whale is the first attempt at a warship built by the early docks of Skyhome. In the modern Skies, Whales still make up a good chunk of Steel Birds, Skyhome's navy, as well as the combined fleet of the United Federation of Independent Colonies. The patent for the Whale's design is held by the Skyhome Free Aerowright Company.   Whales are also prized by privateers and mercenary companies, as they are reliable ships whose designs have withstood the test of time.

Power Generation

The modern whale is powered by a Generation 7: Cloud Baron, the most popular air attuned Elemental Engine of the last generation. With it, the Whale can travel roughly 1,525 KM before need for a recharge. In its time, this was an impressive distance, but has since been outpaced by newer models. As Whales are no longer in production, and their engines are designed to be fixed, most have not made the expensive switch to the newer generation.

Propulsion

The Whale is propelled by a unique wide triple mast design and a series of air pipes that deploy from the Whale's belly. The pipes pump out pressurized air which then transitions into clouds that trail behind the ship.

Weapons & Armament

Whales are equip with a total of eight basic cannons, four on each side, with two per gundeck. The Whale is also equipped with a unique weapon; a bombard mortar that allows for long range attacks.

Hangars & docked vessels

The Whale is equipped with an early Zephyr Chariot dock at the bottom of its hull, allowing for airal deployment for dogfighting. Land Riders can also be stored here, but obviously cannot be deployed in a Sky battle. Unfortunately, this design choice makes the Whale unable to land on water.
"Oh, I love a Whale. Look at it, fat, slow, and deadly. No wonder the navy likes them so much, although I don't think they've caught on yet."
