Douleur

Douleur has two source crystals, one earth attuned and one water attuned.
Douleur is an oval shaped island with patches of dense forest and rocky hills, from which the twin rivers Alba and Ula flow down to the lowlands at either end. Unlike most islands, Douleur is not a perfect chunk of floating earth, as there are several gaps in the island.   There are two main settlements on the island, Easton and Weston, which are infamous for their historical grudge that dates back to the discovery of the island and the first colonies established by Skyhome. Later, when the colony sued for independence, Easton and Weston famously applied to join the United Federation of Independent Colonies separately, and are the only member nations who share a single island. The sister towns have had periods of greater and lesser tension between them, but their feud has never escalated to full-blown violence (although there have been several smaller skirmishes instigated by citizens from either town).

Geography

Douleur is an island with a strange figure eight shape. The center of the eight rises approximately 100 ft higher than the east and west edges of the island, with a series of streams running down and off the side. The island flattens noticeably at its ends, where Easton and Weston are built. The center of the island provides a natural, if fuzzy, boundary which both nations maintain as a loose boarder.    Patches of arable soil can be found on both ends of the island, pressed between the thick-growth forests. Easton maintains a larger farming community, while Weston weighs its food production against the space required to sustain its logging industry. As such, Easton is generally more self sufficient while Weston relies more on trade to feed its people.

Localized Phenomena

Douleur experiences fog most times of the year, with it growing particularly thick in the cooler months before snowfall.

Climate

Douleur experiences mild summers and harsh winters with several feet of snow falling on the island during the season of Terminus.

Natural Resources

Wood, rare ore, and fresh water.

History

While modern Douleur is populated mainly by the decedents of the Skyhome colonists who arrived in the early 2nd century, the island showed signs of inhabitation; strange ruins built at odd angles, idols to the titans that appeared strangely abstract and sinister, and hundreds of personal objects scattered in fields near the island's gaps.
An island split between two rival towns.
Alternative Name(s)
The Island of the Sisters
