Weston

Weston is Douleur's westmost settlement, and is actually the younger of the sister towns; having been founded after the familial conflict that tore the population of the island into the two rival factions we know today.   Notable locations Around Town:
  • The Wandering Whale Inn. The nicest inn in Weston, and perhaps on the entire island of Douleur (although the Restful Whale of Easton would disagree on that point).
  • Vire Mill Yard. One of the biggest employers in Weston, the mill processes the sustainably sourced wood harvested from the island's forests. Owned by the eccentric and mysterious Fredric Noffet who lives in the hills outside of town.
  • The Horror Tavern. A bar and restaurant infamous for both its exotic taxidermy and item menus named with outrageous monster-themed puns.
  • Talasin's Terrific Theater. A minor theater hall which entertains both locals and traveling nobility alike.
  • The Truly Outrageous Shop of Jewels & Gems. A jeweler's shop renowned across skies. Frequented both by the wealthy, for fine jewelry and gems, and traveling adventures, as the store sells a collection of Stones of Power.
  • The Sit & Spin Tavern. A loud, bombastic tavern frequented by sky sailors and common folk; also Weston's most popular brothel.
  • Bowsmins' Lighthouse. A proud structure that stands above the town, guiding wayward souls safely to the port through darkness and cloud cover.
  • Weston Militia HQ. Bastion of law and order in the town, manned by both volunteers and professional contract fighters.
  • The Governor's Estate. The municipal core of Weston and official home of the currently elected governor of Weston.
  • The Four Lord's Church. A multi denominational church which welcomes all followers of The Four Titans in all their many forms. Four statues stand in the center of the church, depicting each titan in a neutral metaphorical manner approachable by all.
  • Onenite Chapple. A small chappal in the poorer side of town erected by a small, but growing denomination of Onenites who preach the good word the One Titan.
  • Guns and Steel. A weapon shop with a particular emphasis on firearms.
  • Nail and Hammer. A general blacksmiths shop known for making armour and weapon modifications.

Demographics

Weston is mainly made up of Skyborn Sapie and Kissed, although due to its position as the trading hub of Douleur, Weston has several individuals from a variety of ethnicities across the Skies. The people embrace this metropolitanism and are generally more open to newcomers and strangers.

Government

Weston is a member of the United Federation of Independent Colonies and enjoys all the protections that association enables, and also means that they've adopted the charter of Law that unifies all the nations within the UFIC. On a municipal level, Weston has a small but hard working civil government of elected officials and civil servants. All new development in the town is required to get approval from the governor's office (located within the governor's estate), while anyone looking to establish a business must seek consent from the master of commerce.

Architecture

The buildings of Weston barrow much from Skyhome architecture from about one century ago, although they're much shorter than building of a similar style built on the home island at that time. Largely, they're 3 to 4 story colonial tutor buildings with some smaller single story buildings mixed in, with important buildings (such as town hall, The Four Lord's Church, and the prestigious Wandering Whale inn) having their own distinct designs.
"A lovely little town. Although at night, I would suggest you stay away form the allies. I'm from Skyhome, so I'm not stranger to danger while walking down the street but... there's something not quite right with those shadows."
