Nul
Nul is the absence of energy, the darkness between the stars, and the endless hunger of the void. Nul is a contradiction, as it is both the manifestation of nothing, and yet, has presence and affects the world. To even begin to describe this concept, one must use the most difficult science of them all: poetry.
The origin of nul is simple: Before the universe, there was nul. When the universe ends, nul will remain.
There are beings in the Fractured Skies infused with the power of nul. Counted among them are horrible monsters, flesh eating undead, and nightmares that defy the known constraints of reality. The world below, The Deadlands, is covered in a world-spanning nul fog that slowly drains the life-force of any who find themselves in its violet clutches. There are also a few, an unlucky or cursed few, born with nul as their Elemental Attunement. Those born with the power of death often resemble it superficially, with sallow skin, hollowed eyes, and raven black hair with a purplish sheen. How they come to be born with this power is unknown, as these cursed children can appear in every population across the Fractured Skies. Such infants rarely see childhood, as those around them see their birth as an ill omen, and they are left out to die of exposure, if not outright killed.
Some forbidden texts speak of dark rituals that allow a normal individual to change their Elemental Attunement to nul, forgoing the energy of life in favour of the dark truth of death. The change is said to be permanent, and those who undertake it forgo returning their energy to the The Four Titans after they perish, consigning their one-life to the bounds of the material plane for all time.
Beings of nul are driven by hunger and anguish. They despise noise, heat, and movement, the tell-tell signs of life. Those born with the power of nul experience similar feelings, but to a much less extreme degree.
Still, the nul is not evil. It is also the domain of acceptance, serenity, and peace. When the world is dead, and the stars have burned away, and the universe sits cold and empty, there will be only one thing left: peace.
