Source Dragon
Despite their name, source dragons don't need to be only dragons. If it serves your game better, feel free to use any stat-block and customize the aesthetics of your elemental beast as you please. Each source dragon is utterly unique, so don't be afraid to get creative.
The only necessity for a source dragon is a breathe attack and that its creature type is dragon. If the stat-block you're using doesn't have a breath attack, take one from a dragon of a similar power level and add it to your new creation. Likewise, if the stat-block of the chosen creature isn't dragon, simply make it a dragon.
Source dragons are massive elemental beings who share some form of connection to the Source Crystals of the various floating islands of the Skies. Unique beings of power and magic, different cultures view them as demigods, nature spirits, or physical manifestations of the will of The Four Titans. Their origins are as mysterious as the origin of the Source Crystals themselves, and countless scholars across the Skies work relentlessly to unravel secrets of these fantastic beasts.
Each source dragon is a unique being with different abilities, personalities, and goals. Some are little more than feral beasts driven primarily by hunger and rage, while others are sophisticated beings of legendary intelligence and secret knowledge.
Some source dragons are incredibly social, interacting and influencing the cultures that have grown up around them. Others despise the intelligent races of the Skies, and go out of their way to kill or maim those who venture too close to their lairs. Other source dragons remain undiscovered, and their abilities, attitudes, sapience all still remain unknown. The size and power of the source dragon isn't directly linked to the size of the Crystal that they are tethered to.
The chief responsibility of a source dragon is to protect their bound source crystal. While some source dragons allow the races of the Skies to shave off Slivers or larger chunks, often in exchange for some form of reward or service, others protect it jealously, attacking anyone who comes close to their Crystal.
Source dragons are functionally immortal as they are bound to their crystal. Once they are killed, they reform next to their Source Crystal within 1 to 7 days. The only way to truly kill a source dragon is to completely destroy their bound crystal.
Source dragons can move around their islands without issue, but cannot travel more than two kilometers away from their home island under normal circumstances. In the past, acts of great magic have allowed powerful individuals to temporally summon a source dragon outside of the bounds of their island.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Source dragons rarely interact with each other, and even then, only with source dragons that they share an island with. Source dragons capable of rational thought and communication are more likely to interact with the mortals that inhabit their island than the other dragons.
Domestication
Some source dragons have been temporally tamed in the past via the magic of powerful druids or other spellcasters. But on a whole, source dragons are fiercely independent creatures who resist any attempt to subjugate them.
