The Black Coast

The Black Coast is a collection of islands colonized by Molten Heart. The islands are bleak dark stone occasionally broken by deep chasms that drop below their bottoms. While uneven, the terrain is not mountous, making traversal across the island's surface relatively easy (so long as travelers mind their step). Little vegetation grows on the island, save for a strain of vibrant red moss that grows wherever a fire had previously burned. The Black Coast is made up of three chunks of rock; Dominous to the South, Minimus to the North-West, and Minimus Minor to the North-East. 
The main export of the island is coal, as the resource is found in abundance on the island. Otherwise, the island maintains a minor hospitality industry to provide rest and services for traveling merchants and sailors. 
There are two main settlements on the island, the The Broad Walk (on Dominous) which is controlled by The Extraction Guild and Fort Solitude which is controlled by The Iron Band. 
There are three dragons on the island, two of which have only been witnessed once. The tree dragons are as follows: Old One Eye (Earth), Smaugaroth (Fire), and The Earthmonger (Earth). Only the Earthmonger displays sentience. Old One Eye roams across the Dominous passively seeking interesting rocks to eat and is little danger to anyone (save for Earth Kissed).

Localized Phenomena

Due to the high coal content in the rock, the islands have a habit of catching fire with the slightest spark. These blazes can last for days at a time, as torrents of flame briefly engulf huge portions of each of the three main landmasses. Colonization is only possible as the islands are near-constantly buffeted by strong headwinds from the West, making fires less common on that side of each island. As such, all structures on the island are made from stone or metal. 
Semi-frequent rain storms help to balance out the perpetual fire risk, but the occasional dry lighting storm does the opposite, providing the ignition needed to set the island ablaze.

Fauna & Flora

Wyverns occasionally nest on the island chain's Eastern face, attracted to the foul weather and wet Skies. They have been known to harass ships that come close to their nests, but they generally steer clear of the ships that travel through and dock in the West.

Natural Resources

Due to some combination of the influence of its source crystals, veins of coal constantly push their way up to the surface or between the crags scar the island. The population of The Broad Walk collect this coal on behalf of the The Extraction Guild.

History

The island was discovered roughly 200 years ago, but largely ignored by early colonization efforts due to the inhospitable present. Only Molten Heart was willing to undertake the labour necessary to build a colony on the Black Coast, importing both colonists and building resources (as the local stone was too flammable) at the beginning of the 4th century.
