House Aurum

"Gold coins make the world go as round as they are"

~Random House Aurum joke

History

House Aurum, like all New Bloods, is not a House born from the Great Revolution against the Elves and was blessed directly with magic by the first Highlander King. But rather it is a later House born from profit and trade, but unlike the other New Bloods their founder Aurum was not an Artificer and inventor. Aurum was one of the first banks to ever open its doors in the Freelands, which is due an ecomonic boom after the Great Revolution. Within a few generations of the Great Revolution trade with the Dwellers and Beastfolk had surged, an increase in supply and demand in of magical and domestic goods, various trades of merchant and artisan guilds, and the establishment of a Gold based currency (as oppose to Elvish Electrum based). Businesses had boomed and banks were born, with Aurum being one of the first. From there and after a few more generations of careful business ventures and investments, House Aurum had almost a monopoly on all the major banks throughout the Freelands. Supposedly, even House Highlander and the Olds Bloods had debts and accounts with House Aurum. It was natural, and almost pressured, at this point to name House Aurum as Noble House of the New Bloods. Its heraldry, naturally, is a golden scale against a half copper and half silver background.   When the Great Rebellion came, House Aurum had nothing to lose and everything to gain. They had accrued enough wealth to rival the royal treasury and that wealth could only grow in war. Thus they invested mountains of gold into the development of the Warforged Army and aided the other New Blood Houses in creating them. They had no personal vendettas against the Old Bloods, though they did take some satisfaction that the debts the Old Bloods had with House Aurum had been finally paid once they raided their ancestral treasuries.    Today, House Aurum still holds a monopoly on all banking institutions and controls much of the flow of Gold in the Freelands. They are usually the ones mercenaries and bounty hunters talk to when looking for payment, as most formal job requests go through them.
