Egil the Bold
The people of Jordsvik were a hunter gather society. They lived caves and hunted wild animals. The people were under constant threat of raids from the Risi. Egil rallied the people to wage war against the Risi and successfullly forced them out of their territory into the wilderness.
After uniting the people founded the city of Raven's Ford which lead to completely new way of life for the people. They begin to lead to a new way of life as the people moved from the wilderness into cities. This lead to a cultural and technological revolution.
Overtime the territory controlled by Egil and the city of Raven's Ford expanded into the country side and the entire region began to be known as Jordsvik and is under the rule of the Jarl who are all the decendants of Egil.
Spread
Many myths and legends exist regarding the heroic deeds of the Egil and the Warband. Those are spread widely through the community in the form of songs, stories, and festivals. The Festival of Light is a tradition that commemaries the founding of Raven's Ford and Jordsvik.
In addition the people of Jordsvik relive the myth of their societies founding through 'Symbolic Action'. This a custom where citizens literally act out the behaviors of historic figures and myths. This is done through in the form of public display during festivals but also through putting the heroic characterists into action by traveling into the wild to hunt and raid the Risi.
People engaging in this custom engage in the practice of 'Masking' where they alter their appearance and behavior as much as possible to mirror the subject of the myth. The people believe when do this their body is filled with the soul of the epic hero of the past and they are literally loose their own identity while masked and replace it with the personality and traits of the hero.
Cultural Reception
The Dogs of War tradition exists in part to commemorate these events. This is a practice of masking where the youths attune with their ancestors by putting on the wolf skin and joining the warband.
