Pestleman

A pestleman is an apothecary-pharmacist that serves smaller communities either in conjunction with or (with especially small communities) in place of a Physicia or Cleric. Some Clerics or Physicias may have begun their careers as local pestlemen.

Perception

Purpose

Concoction and provision of folk medicine and other homeopathic remedies for the layperson.

Social Status

Depending on their skill and ethics -- neither of which have been subject to any form of standardization or regulation -- they may be highly-regarded and trusted, or be regarded as charlatans.

History

In recent years with the standardization and training being imposed on Physicias courtesy of Martus and Biae Eburos, those pestlemen with strong affiliations with Physicia find themselves being standardized by proxy. For some this is welcomed, but for others it represents a threat to their traditional methods and tools -- often rooted in shamanism.

Operations

Tools

Mortar and pestle, grinders, small knives and shears, distillation setups, plethora of bottles and satchets, occasionally sewing kits and sealing wax.

Usually those found in nature: herbs, mineral supplements, special waters, etc. However, some may also supply fetishes, taglocks, tokens, and other more spiritual-based materials.

Workplace

Most operate out of their homes, but some with the means may have a dedicated shopfront.
