Placing of the Crown, The

In the Deep Age (Belowcloud), all good life was adrift and suffering in a sea of untold horrors known as the Depths. The Great Ones took pity on them; they decided to to create a place of safety for the chosen and rescue them.

Xados purified a section of land, and cried, "Lo, I have purged the filth and cruel and unjust -- never forget that purity was born first from a burning."
Iasis raised it high into the sky, and cried, "Lo, I have placed a burning crown atop the horrors of the world -- never forget that what is raised is only by virtue of what is below."
Goas covered it with clouds, and cried, "Lo, I have veiled the haven from the low and the low from the haven -- never forget that what yolks you may protect you."
Ieb then took the chosen from the Depths and placed them within the haven, and cried, "Lo, I have raised you from from your suffering to this haven -- never forget that it is yours and yours alone."
Together the Great Ones then composed the land that it might both serve and challenge its inhabitants; the chosen cried, "Lo, we who were raised from the Depths shall serve the Great Ones, our saviors and wardens. We will be gifted when we are reverent and grateful, and punished when we are astray and ungrateful, and accept both with humility. Should we forget your lessons, let us be cast down as unworthy to remain."

The chosen -- i.e., the Order of the Burning Crown -- thus named the continent Icalar, meaning 'worthy place' (according to them).
