Spalsis, The Spiral Hermit
Spalsis is a Weresnail of legend within the Spirit World. Some claim to have seen him wandering the forests much like his weresnail brethren in recent years, though it is unclear if he is really alive at all.
The Spiritual Travelers first heard of Spalsis after defeating a group of Weresnails and finding a note on their bodies along with a dosier type notebook about the legendary figure. These weresnails were apparently hoping to dispose of Spalsis for some reason.

"Your brother lives at the center of it all. Afraid of the gyres that form around him, afraid of the spirals and the realm that he fell in to. But, in a way, his current position and existence is doing something. He has grabbed onto a piece of Stability, he is at the eye of a storm, and unless he can overcome that he will be unable to escape without your help."
"The Stability that formed during my journey through that land long ago has begun to disrupt the flow of the Spiral to such an extent that it is invading this land that we are in more and more. I think that whatever your brother is using to hide is part of this. Saving the Gates and saving your kin will be a challenge to do in tandem, though if you care not for the fate of this land then the Stability could be left as it is as you make your escape. Though, I would remember this, young Wildcloak... there are other forces at play here besides just you and your brother. A great evil capable of shapeshifting and taking any form it desires has its eyes on the throne at the center of The Spiral... and your brother may be a piece in its plan."
"Beware The Oni, young Wildcloak. His machinations are unknowable as they lie in madness. His only master is the one that chitters, the one you cannot say and that I will not say out of polite upbringing for your sake. He can take any form, this Oni, and he has many servants."

Physical Description
Body Features
Spalsis is a massive weresnail standing at about 11 feet tall and weighing over 400 pounds. His flesh is a pale, sickly grey color and covered in the usual slime. His shell, like most weresnails, is in the shape of a spiral. It is also covered in different mosses, algaes, and even ferns and mushrooms. Sometimes his size is, hopefully, exagerated and described as being large enough to have a tree growing from his shell.
It is claimed that the spiral of his shell goes in 10 different directions.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
It is said, amongst Weresnails, that the first of their kind was a man cursed with Salinkanthropy by the Cozy Spirit of Cottage Living after he pestered her a bit too much. The disonnance between how he viewed himself and his new form was so great that he was driven to madness and began attacking everything he saw.
His rage grew and grew and he frequently took this rage out on the fae and spirits around him, but one day he began to recognize the rage for what it was and retreated into the life of a hermit. He swore never to harm another living creature, and he began to record his thoughts.
He used these texts to help guide some of the weresnails he had created over the years and to help them see a better path. Some of them listened and those that they created through procreation or the spread of their curse were capable of blending into society, controlling their curse, and easily walking amongst civilizations even in their weresnail hybrid form. Those that refused his doctrine walked a path of violence, chaos and rage. Their descendents were mostly feral, with some special cases capable of existing in society while outside thier hybrid form, and any that were infected with their curse becoming just as enraged as they were.
Social
Religious Views
Spalsis is a follower of the god Mutsonomes. This is a diety which is, unusually, from the material plane and normally worshipped by primarily human civilizations like Voldaren. She is the goddess of isolation, nature, and is typically worshipped by hermits.
How Spalsis truly came to worship this deity is unknown, however, the notebook found on the defeated weresnails suggests that Spalsis was once an ordinary human, the first to be cursed with Salinkanthropy. If that is the case then he may have brought the religion with him into this realm, and it may have helped him regain his composure after supposedly going mad early on in his new life as a weresnail.
Social Aptitude
According to the notebook and the note found on the weresnails, Spalsis is apparently very pretentious. This could just be a misconception due to them being enemies. He apparently leads many weresnails away from paths that would otherwise "Bring them ruin" such as violence. This suggests that he has quite the following, and the weresnails were going to be prepared to disguise themselves as members of this following.
