Tympi's Forest

Tympi's Forest is a location in The Gates. It can be found to the south of the badlands and Spenolt's River. This forest is home to many different groups of fae and their civilizations along with a great deal of wild animals, spirits and plants.

Geography

Tympi's Forest is regarded as the massive southern forest of The Gates.   It features a multitude of different trees, marshes, rivers, streams and lakes. Along the northern border of Tympi's Forest is Spenolt's River which separates it from the Badlands. From Spenolt's River many streams and smaller rivers flow through the forest and feed into different sized lakes and marshes.

Ecosystem Cycles

Throughout the year many of the trees in this forest change with the seasons like any other tree.   Gorgeous reds, oranges, yellows and browns are all apparent as autumn leaves are visible during the fall. Several trees, including Mothlight Trees, do have their leaves change color but the leaves never fall from the tree. Rather, they simply change color then revert back to their regular appearance as winter ends. Some trees also do not change colors throughout the seasons despite their decideuous appearance.   As the seasons change the temperature of the environment does remain surprisingly consistent. Very rarely does snow actually fall in Tympi's Forest, and, because of this, animals do not usually feel the need for hibernation or migration. Rather, during the late autumn and winter months, travelers might be privy to some animals that are not normally in the forests as they have migrated south from more northern climates.   Myotlings, during the winter, would normally sleep as their flowers close during this season, however, due to recent political tensions they have remained awake for some time. The same can be said of many Mothlings as they have remained awake during the summer months despite their usual nature.

Localized Phenomena

Tympi's Forest is home to the Mothlight Trees, the special interspacial homes of the Mothlings. The Writer noted that "they have entire worlds inside the trees", and while this is true in a sense, it is actually just a single massive city. Mothlight Trees are actually all connected to the same Mothlight Village, rather than there being multiple civilizations behind them.   This forest is also home to a rather unique creature known as Fjarverand

which started showing up a little over 50 years ago.
The Twisting Stumps also reside exclusively within Tympi's Forest. They were encountered by The Writer during his journey, and seem to have a connection to a certain Gate.

Fauna & Flora

Tympi's Forest is home to an impressive variety of plants and animals that come in all sorts of sizes, colors, shapes and opacities.   Many different types of trees populate the forest, some of which are inhabited by spirits or are spirits themselves. Some of these trees may pull themselves out of the ground and walk around while others might just move the world around them to appear somewhere else, or they might be at some random location each day based on their mood. There are incredibly ancient trees throughout the forest as well that spend their days sleeping or convincing travelers to go on a quest.   Smaller plants also exist like the myriad of different species and colors that can be found as flowers, ferns, vines, fruits and vegetables, and so on. Many of these plants, including some of the trees, might be ones that a newcoming tourist might be more familiar with, such as oak trees, whereas others could be completely alien, such as a Traveler's Shiitake.   Similarly, there are many different animals (and spirits) in this forest that create quite the interesting community. At any given point an adventurer may see a flower lift off the ground and fly away as a bird, or wolves swinging from branch to branch with the vines growing from their innards, or one of many Zodiaptera flying about depending on the season.

Natural Resources

Within Tympi's Forest one could find a good amount of wood from the various trees, as long as they're okay with being cut down that is. There are also many vegetables and flowers that can be used as foods or oils, and distilleries seem to be capable of finding enough ingredients for their spirits within this forest as their supply never seems to run out.

History

Tympi's Forest has had a rather long period of peace spanning back what are likely thousands of years. This peace was a result of Tympi and her Court working together to maintain relations amongst the many civilizations within. During Tympi's rule there was very little need for worry; days and nights were all long and quiet, filled with peaceful breezes and the jovial laughter of nearby fae.   Granted, there were periods of unknowable madness that spanned portions of the history involving the entirety of The Gates, but it was thanks to the collective efforts of Tympi and other leaders that these forces were often driven back into the unknowable that they came from.   Since Tympi's disappearance 50 years ago, there has been a constant level of unease throughout the forest as the building tension between the new Tympi's Court and the splintering Ilven's Court are ever present. As these tensions grow conflict becomes more and more likely. Hopefully the forest can be returned to its peaceful state sometime soon and before anyone gets needlessly hurt.
