The Twisting Stumps
The Twisting Stumps are a strange phenomenon which occurs in Tympi's Forest. It was first recorded by The Writer in his field guide on Kaldau 03, 258. Their song made him incredibly uncomfortable before he fled the clearing where they were located.
The Spiritual Travelers encountered a different clearing of Stumps on Nurend 05, 308 while dealing with the events surrounding The Spirit of Christmas. Contrary to The Writer's description, the group of adventurers did not hear any singing from these stumps until they physically interracted with them, or while trying to spiritually connect with their jovial adversary.
While trying to obtain a living stump so as to craft a Portable Farm, Kaswink discovered that dirt does not seem to be affected by the stumps. Because of this realization, she was able to transport it back to the base with Hysteria's help and begin work on her item. It is unclear why exactly dirt is unaffected by these stumps, though Namina has theorized that it may be due to the dirt's need to constantly move the life energy found in all things, or it could be because dirt is just so...grounded and therefore less likely to be emotionally or mentally manipulated.

Basic Information
Anatomy
Twisting Stumps have the appearance of regular tree stumps, and they could come from any type of tree and any thickness of trunk. The only consistency is the odd behavior of their rings which, in itself, is not even consistent across all twisting stumps.
These rings tend to shift across the stumps until they begin to float, disjoined from the stump and above the ground. This shift does not initially cause the rings to rise any further from the ground than they were when they were attached to the stump, but they can eventually start to "Swoop" into the air along a curve.
As their rings shift along this parallel track to the stump, they begin to form vague face-like shapes which feel more like confused interpretations of nature at first until they start to sing.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
These stumps seem to be capable of a limited form of telepathy. This communication is entirely reserved for the repetitive and maddening song which they are perpetually singing despite not always being heard. This song was capable of completely incapacitating Namina. The Writer has claimed that this song can be heard throughout the forest and that it becomes more powerful or louder the closer you are.
Those that hear the song feel themselves spiraling into the depths, their vision partially on a track moving along a downward spiral while simultaneously remaining stationary. It's an unpleasant experience for sure, and it is unclear what happens to those that give in to it.
