Whodigo
The Whodigo is a spirit which can be found throughout The Gates. It is a manifestation of the unanswered questions "Who am I?" or "Who will I be?" amongst others, and is representative of the phrase, "I am not who I am."
This spirit was first encountered by the Spiritual Travelers on Daulok 07, 308. Similar to the Whendigo and Wheredigo, the events leading up to this encounter took place within a dream-like state. These dreams started out mundane enough, with memories of finding ingredients, defeating powerful foes, and so on, but they changed as is customary of some nights in the Spirit World.
Each of the Spiritual Travelers had different dreams after a point, and these dreams were related to both themselves and an ally. Though, strangely enough, Namina's dreams were more consistent, lacking any perspective from a friend.
Individual Dreams
Reassuring Tympi
Agave, You meditate or do some light activity for your scheduled few hours much like Hysteria, and during these meditation sessions you too are able to reflect back on everything that happened. You remember sneaking around the battlefield, casting spells to help your allies and shooting your bow and targets to protect Namina and make sure the plan is successful. You remember losing consciousness, falling down the chasm, and finding yourself conscious again just in time to save Ilven and Namina. You remember masks and a banner dripping with the same black oil as the spirit around you.
DAN, You sleep, dreaming of all the things you and your pals did this week. The terror you felt in Thera Relovut as you stumbled through the camp, and you felt anger rising up inside of you. More than anger, it’s madness, madness that comes from both a single source and an entire congregation of prayers. You felt your glaive slice through your first and, for a long time, your only ally in the spirit world… You remember your own grandfather fighting you, thinking you are the very monster you seek to destroy.
Frode, You sleep, dreaming of it all…the people you saved, the people you defeated, and all the suffering of your friends. You remember expertly flinging warpicks through the air, axes, crossbows, brutalizing enemies that would become your allies, finding the bravery to continue on…your ever-present brothers, and the sadness felt knowing one of them is missing. You remember a carnival, and you remember the ones that loved you.
Hysteria, You meditate, the world around you just as present as the world within your mind. You have distinct memories of dread…of so many people dying, people that could’ve been spared the suffering, people that died slowly, and you remember seeing them come to life once more at Thera Relovut. The fear, the confusion, you remember your spear piercing through enemies, you remember saving Kaswink’s life with prayer through your own suffering… You remember a red string being tied into knots, falling to the ground and forming a spiral.
Kaswink, You dream of a desert, your home, where you grew up and learned about life, death, and family. You dream of the plants filled with blight, rotting, falling apart. They are dying, and the Murids… you remember starving. The need for food that is only quenched with some rotten, blight-filled fruit that no one should really be eating…well that and alcohol. You dream of these same plants, their spirits, and the murids they poisoned coming back to one form: amalgamations of plant, rat and rot. You remember that they would strike you down, blame you for their demise, and you realize that you have failed to save anyone from this blight. But is that such a bad thing? Maybe it's just their time to die. You remember healing your allies, protecting Namina as she completes this ritual, and you remember trying time and time again to cast an important spell…only to fail, again and again.
These memories and dreams continue on through the night until they begin to slow, like a tape or record until they stop completely. Things stop for all of you at the same point in the dream. Each of you standing at Thera Relovut, the chasm nearby. As everything comes to a stop you can see your friends around you, the brightness on each of them being lowered until they are just black silhouettes with glowing white eyes. The same thing happens to the grass, the dirt, and the sky until all you have is darkness, and then you are alone. The loneliness goes beyond just having no one around you though, no, your own “Self” is also fading. Vision, you can still see, thoughts, you can still think, from what you can tell you are definitely alive and conscious, but you don’t have a You. A question comes to mind.
Who am I?
And then it is answered.
As if the lights were turned back on, everything speeds back up to normal and the dream resumes. You are who you are, right? You continue going about your day in this dream, and you each feel something wrap around your ankles. This dream quickly turns into a nightmare as you are dragged away from your companions, each of you pulled in a different direction before abruptly stopping and waking up in a panic, drenched in sweat, and staring up at the canvas roof of a tent. You each can hear the crackling of a campfire, but you can’t see each other, you’re each in different tents, except Tympi, you’re the insomniac out lighting a campfire.
Something seems off though about it all, something just isn’t right. There’s something about the body you’re in, or the mind you have, or something else. A bit of dysphoria, one could say. This IS your body, but maybe it shouldn’t be? Hard to tell, though you’ve all woken up and found that a fire is lit in your camp. The person responsible is an old friend of yours, Tympi, and she seems bothered by something.

If you try to find all the pieces of yourself, what good will you do? WIll you hurt people or yourself along the way? You’re plenty yourself.
“As you speak, you start to experience what seems to be an extreme form of tunnel vision. Your friends are getting smaller, farther away, and blurry darkness encroaches from every angle.” “The tunnel vision worsens, you almost feel like you are shrinking and falling back into your body. Even the conversation is getting harder to hear, muffled.” “You’ve shrunk and fallen into yourself to the point that you can no longer see or hear what is going on outside, but you can feel your body suddenly moving, standing up, and the world is coming back into view as your body dissolves. It leaves behind you, just this nugget of yourself, so small, but you can see your friends relatively close and nearby…

Basic Information
Anatomy
"A creature detached from its top and lower half as if to represent the mind’s detachment from the body. The top half has jagged teeth lining the bottom, eyes that swirl into nothingness, and hook-like arms that reach out to unlikely lengths when needed. The bottom half has jagged teeth lining the top with hook-like tendrils as a form of locomotion. While it has teeth and some semblance of a “mouth” this creature doesn’t seem to have anywhere for whatever it chews up to go."
The Writer's Description of a Whodigo as seen in his Field Guide.
The Whodigo that the Spiritual Travelers encountered had one massive mouth lined with jagged teeth, another mouth inside with more jagged teeth, and a third mouth inside that with smooth, almost humanoid teeth. Its lips were long and curled up into the air with tendrils that ended with two more mouths. One of these tendrils was pink, laughing maniacally or shouting in anger, the other was blue, laughing maniacally or weeping. Beneath this "main mouth" was no body, instead just black/dark red tendrils and spirals that were constantly grasping in all directions. These tendrils were used to grapple the spiritual travelers and lift them into its mouth, they were also used to prevent them from leaving their campfire. It also had two thicker tendrils which were grey and matched the overlapping tecture of the colorful tendrils with their strange mouths. Above the mouths were two large eyes and several smaller eyes above that. Wavy, wispy lines went from the larger eyes up into the air above the Whodigo. Different colored lights, fragmented and geometric like stained glass could be seen around the smaller eyes.
