Zodiaptera

Zodiaptera are a type of spirit which take a form dependent on the time of year. Each Zodiaptera has different colors, elemental affinities and designs. The name "Zodiaptera" is a combination of Zodiac and Diptera, the order which all flies belong to.   They can be found throughout the Gates but generally prefer cooler, wetter and shadier environments. This can also vary depending on the time of year. Each Zodiaptera could be connected to certain astrological signs that align with the time of year they are more common in.
  • Endurgin - This Zodiaptera was purchased by Namina from The Citizens of Greed when she was looking for some pigments to paint with. It is related to Gemini as seen in its two bodies and light-green/yellow coloration. It likely has an affinity for air, but not much is known about it yet due to the only seen specimen being dried and preserved in a shadowbox.
  • Nurend - This Zodiaptera was described by The Writer in The Field Guide. It was seen in the month of Nurend, and due to its coloration and affinity for fire is likely connected to Sagittarius.

Basic Information

Anatomy

As previously described, Zodiaptera have a different appearance depending on the time of year, however, they do all share some characteristics. They’re small, ranging between the size of a rather large horsefly to a smaller bird like a blue jay. Each Zodiaptera has a segmented worm-like body and a face akin to a child-like drawing with a line for a mouth and swirling eyes.   The one The Writer saw sometime in Nurend and notated in The Field Guide was blue and enjoyed fire, it had fiery wings and a trim of small flames. It’s wings were made of twisting fire. A drawing of the creature was provided in the bestiary here: Zodiaptera.   The one Namina purchased from the Citizens of Greed had what appeared to be two intertwined, segmented and worm-like bodies. One body was yellow and the other was a light green. These two bodies met into a single head with two faces. It had two sets of wings, similar to a dragonfly, that shimmered like gemstones. It currently resides inside a shadowbox, perfectly preserved in death despite being a spirit.
