Gertrude Greger (a.k.a. Gertie)
Gertrude is the youngest of the
Greger Family, younger sister to
Godrick and child to
Gladwin and
Gillian. Gertrude has a complicated relationship with her family, as she detests the criminal aspect of their world and resists the cruelty that it often engenders, but she also loves them intensely and values loyalty highly.
After a particularly brutal episode in the
grotto in which Gertrude attempted to help a group of youths and children escape from the prisons, the young woman left her family for a time. During the ensuing years, Gertrude joined the
Actor's Guild as an adventurer, and, indeed, it was this that lead her back home. After years of making contacts, Gertrude returned to the grotto under mysterious circumstances. This lead her to meeting
Festan and assisting in killing her family and leading the enslaved gladiators to freedom.
Mental characteristics
Gertrude has always been wild and inquisitive, pragmatic and kind. Like her brother, she reveled in the freedom living in grotto afforded her as a child, but as she grew up and grew to understand the sometimes horrific cruelty this kind of criminal underground necessitated, she became warier, more worried, more willing to step outside of her family.
One evening, incensed at the fact that literal children were brought to the grotto to fight, she attempted an escape, to send them away. During this, they were slaughtered. Her family almost killed her for the betrayal. Instead, they opted to banish her from the grotto, sending her away into a world she knew only second hand. After traveling and adventuring on her own, she joined the Actor's Guild.
For years, she adventured across Ibia and Cetan, completing odd jobs and making contacts. Eventually, however, she knew she would have to return home.

History
The Greger siblings grew up close, but as they aged, their different dispositions and experiences in the criminal underground of their families world caused a rift. Where Gertrude is pragmatic and kind, Godrick is prone to flights of fancy and cruelty. Gertrude sought to leave the families criminal life, while Godrick reveled in the possibility to cause pain.
